Compression Therapy in Conjunction with Manual Therapies | Our Process

Medical Solutions works with therapists across the country who treat patients suffering from chronic conditions such as edema, lymphedema, and complications associated with venous disorders such as Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI). As a supplier of care and equipment for Compression Pump Therapy, we work with patients, physicians and therapists to create a total care solution for patients.

Statistically, as well as with patients we see, a combination of professional therapy and compression pump treatment will yield the most improvement and the fastest recovery. As such, Compression Pump Therapy, specifically with pumps that provide safe, gradient, segmental, pneumatic compression therapy can be an effective adjunct to the treatment that your patients receive in therapy and has been shown over and over in clinical studies as one essential element in the total treatment and therapy care of patients suffering from the effects of edema, lymphedema and other long term conditions.

When used properly, compression therapy pumps mimic the type of peristaltic movement achieved in treatments such as manual lymph drainage (MLD). This process is essential in the evacuation of pooling lymph and fluids that contribute to edema, lymphedema and similar conditions.

Throughout the process we work with you as a partner in the health, healing and wellbeing of your patient. Our core value is based on improving the quality of life for people in need. It is our goal to treat every patient with the utmost respect, care and attention to rights and well-being.

Every patient who has undergone surgeries such as mastectomies and is experiencing lymph complications should have an understanding of manual processes such as MLD to clear lymphatic channels prior to using a compression pump. As MLD therapy opens the channels to evacuate fluid and reduce swelling, compression therapy pumps continue this process, moving fluid out of the affected area and giving you better overall results with your patients. As such, we enjoy reciprocal relationships with many therapists and are happy to refer patients that come to us through physicians or other channels to a therapist in their area.

After therapies such as Manual Lymph Drainage have done their work to open the channels to evacuate fluid and reduce swelling, compression therapy pumps continue this process for longer periods of time in a highly controlled fashion, giving you better overall results with your patients.

There are basically two ways that we recommend incorporating compression pump therapy into the overall therapy plan for your patients: as an adjunct to ongoing therapy and as part of an ongoing plan for patients in order to continue their progress after their therapy sessions are finished.

Ordering Pumps for Your Patients
Home use is recommended as an adjunctive treatment in most cases. Medical Solutions can supply pumps for your patients’ home use with little or no out-of-pocket cost to them. Once you contact us, we then work directly with the patient and their physician in order to get the prescription needed and documentation required by the insurance company. As experts in private and Medicare coverage, we then deal directly with the insurance carrier to find the best coverage for the patient’s product. It is our policy to make sure that any person in need receives a pump. Period. Typically, Medical Solutions accepts the reimbursement as payment in full and does not bill the patient.
